To give general instructions or procedures at the airport, Italian uses si deve + infinitive (impersonal form) or the imperative.
Si deve + infinitive is the impersonal form to say what must be done: Si deve fare il check-in due ore prima. (You must check in two hours before.) Si deve mostrare il passaporto alla dogana. (You must show your passport at customs.) Non si deve superare il limite di liquidi. (You must not exceed the liquid limit.)
The procedural imperative gives direct instructions: Mostri il passaporto, per favore. (Please show your passport.) (formal) Vai al gate B12. (Go to gate B12.) (informal) Aspetti qui. (Wait here.) (formal)
Si deve is invariable and is used with the infinitive for general rules.
