Superlatives & Asking for Directions
Forming superlatives
Add -st to the adjective, preceded by het:
- groot → het grootst (the biggest)
- mooi → het mooist (the most beautiful)
- klein → het kleinst (the smallest)
Irregular: goed → het best, veel → het meest
When before a noun, add -e: de grootste stad, het mooiste museum.
Asking for directions
- Waar is het station? → Where is the station?
- Hoe kom ik bij het museum? → How do I get to the museum?
- Is het ver? → Is it far?
Giving directions
- Ga rechtdoor → Go straight
- Ga linksaf bij het stoplicht → Turn left at the traffic light
- Neem de tweede straat rechts → Take the second street on the right
- Het is aan de linkerkant → It is on the left side
Example: "Dit is het grootste museum van Amsterdam. Ga rechtdoor en dan linksaf. Het is naast het mooiste park van de stad."
