When you lose something in Dutch, use kwijt at the end of the sentence: Ik ben mijn paspoort kwijt (I've lost my passport). To report theft, say Iemand heeft mijn portemonnee gestolen (Someone stole my wallet). To ask for help politely, use Kunt u mij helpen? (Can you help me? — formal). At a police station, you'll need to aangifte doen (file a report). Notice that kwijt is always placed at the end: Ik ben mijn telefoon kwijt, never Ik ben kwijt mijn telefoon. Use kapot for broken items: Mijn koffer is kapot (My suitcase is broken).
