Project management language in Russian
At B2 level, project management in Russian requires mastering verbal aspect to describe progress, and gerunds (verbal adverbs) to describe parallel processes.
Aspect: imperfective vs perfective for project tasks
- Команда работает над задачей. (imperfective — ongoing) — The team is working on the task.
- Команда выполнила задачу. (perfective — completed) — The team completed the task.
- Выполнять задачи поочерёдно vs выполнить все задачи к пятнице — to carry out tasks one by one vs to complete all tasks by Friday.
Verbal adverbs for parallel processes
- Координируя работу команды, менеджер составляет отчёты. — While coordinating the team, the manager compiles reports.
- Учитывая риски, мы скорректировали план. — Taking into account the risks, we adjusted the plan.
Key project management constructions
- нести ответственность за + accusative — to be responsible for
- укладываться в бюджет / сроки — to stay within budget / deadlines
- вести проект — to run / manage a project
- согласовать с заказчиком — to coordinate / agree with the client
Tip: Учитывая (taking into account) and исходя из (proceeding from / based on) are essential verbal adverbs for justifying project decisions.

Проект завершился к успеху.Проект завершился успешно. / Проект был завершён с успехом.К успеху means toward success (direction). Use успешно (adverb) or с успехом to describe a successful completion.
Мы отстаём от план.Мы отстаём от плана.От requires the genitive case: от плана, not от план.
Задача была выполнена командой к успеху.Задача была успешно выполнена командой.К успеху is not used this way. Place the adverb успешно directly before or after the participle.
Нужно контролировать над расходами.Нужно контролировать расходы.Контролировать takes a direct accusative object with no preposition: контролировать расходы.
На сегодняшний проект есть много рисков.В рамках данного проекта существует ряд рисков.На проект does not idiomatically express project scope. Use в рамках проекта (within the project scope) and существует (exist) for a formal register.
