Geopolitical discourse in Korean demands mastery of diplomatic register — formal, measured, and precise. Korean diplomatic language relies heavily on complex noun phrases and formal speech endings (-습니다 style). The Korean Peninsula's unique context — division (분단), denuclearization talks (비핵화 협상), and alliance networks (동맹 체제) — requires specialized vocabulary. To express diplomatic positions, use ~(으)ㄹ 것을 촉구하다 (to urge that ~) or ~에 대한 우려를 표명하다 (to express concern about ~). The concept of 패권 (hegemony) is central to understanding competition between great powers, while 다자주의 (multilateralism) represents the cooperative alternative. Note that in formal diplomatic writing, verbs are often nominalized: 협력하다 → 협력, 논의하다 → 논의, creating dense, formal noun-heavy structures characteristic of Korean official documents.
常见错误
북한이 나쁜 나라예요북한의 행동은 국제 규범에 위배되는 것으로 평가받고 있습니다In diplomatic discourse, labeling a country as 나쁘다 is inappropriate. Formal language evaluates actions against international norms using 위배되다 (to violate) and epistemic qualifiers like 평가받다.
미국과 중국이 싸우고 있어요미중 간 전략적 경쟁이 심화되고 있습니다싸우다 is far too colloquial for geopolitical writing. 전략적 경쟁 (strategic competition) and 심화되다 (to deepen/intensify) are the proper diplomatic terms.
제재가 효과 없어요제재의 실효성에 대한 논란이 지속되고 있습니다효과 없다 is blunt and informal. The diplomatic register uses 실효성 (effectiveness) and frames the topic as ongoing debate (논란이 지속되다).
한국은 미국 편이에요한국은 한미 동맹을 기반으로 안보 전략을 구축해 왔습니다편 (side) is too informal and reductive. Formal geopolitical language specifies the alliance framework (한미 동맹) and the policy built upon it (안보 전략을 구축하다).
비핵화는 안 될 것 같아요비핵화의 실현 가능성에 대해서는 전문가들 사이에 이견이 존재합니다안 될 것 같아요 is a casual personal opinion. C2 diplomatic writing attributes uncertainty to expert disagreement (이견이 존재하다) rather than personal feeling.
