Prices and Paying
Asking the price
- Hoeveel kost dit? (How much does this cost?)
- Wat kost dit? (What does this cost?)
- Hoeveel is het? (How much is it?)
Saying prices
Prices in Dutch skip "en" (and) and plural:
- €3,50 → drie euro vijftig (NOT ~~drie euros en vijftig centen~~)
- €0,75 → vijfenzeventig cent
- €12,99 → twaalf euro negenennegentig
Payment methods
- contant betalen — pay cash
- pinnen — pay by card (debit)
- de bon / het bonnetje — receipt
- het wisselgeld — change
Tip: In the Netherlands, "pinnen" (using a debit card) is the most common payment method. Credit cards are less widely accepted.

Drie euros en vijftig centenDrie euro vijftigCurrency amounts: no plural -s on euro/cent, no "en" between.
Ik wil betalen met contant.Ik wil contant betalen."Contant betalen" is the fixed phrase. The adverb goes before the verb.
Mag ik de wisselgeld?Mag ik het wisselgeld?"Wisselgeld" is a het-word: het wisselgeld.
