Questions with "Como" and "Qual"
In Portuguese, you can ask someone's name in two ways:
- Como te chamas? → What's your name? (informal, literally "How do you call yourself?")
- Como se chama? → What's your name? (formal)
To answer, use the reflexive verb chamar-se:
💬 Example: "Chamo-me Maria." → "My name is Maria."
Subject Pronouns
Portuguese subject pronouns are essential for conjugation:
- eu → I
- tu → you (informal)
- ele / ela → he / she
- você → you (formal)
💬 Example: "Ele chama-se Pedro." → "His name is Pedro."
Note: In spoken Portuguese, tu is common in Portugal, while você is more common in Brazil. Both are understood everywhere.
