Describing Where Things Are
Japanese uses two existence verbs: あります for inanimate objects and います for living things (people, animals). Example: テーブルの上に本があります (There is a book on the table). 庭に猫がいます (There is a cat in the garden).
Position words go after の: 上 (on top), 下 (under), 中 (inside), 横 (beside), 前 (in front), 後ろ (behind). Pattern: [place] の [position] に [thing] が あります/います.
To describe your home: 私の家には部屋が３つあります (My house has 3 rooms). リビングにソファがあります (There's a sofa in the living room). Note that the subject of existence takes が, not を. Use は for the topic/location: 台所にはテーブルがあります (In the kitchen, there is a table).
