Comparative: più / meno ... di

To compare two things:

"La commedia è più divertente del dramma." (The comedy is funnier than the drama.)

"Il libro è meno noioso del film." (The book is less boring than the film.)

"Questo film è più lungo di quello." (This film is longer than that one.)

Absolute superlative: -issimo

To express a very high degree:

• bello → bellissimo (very beautiful)
• divertente → divertentissimo (very funny)
• bravo → bravissimo (very talented)
• interessante → interessantissimo (very interesting)

"Il film era bellissimo!" (The film was beautiful!)

"L'attore è bravissimo." (The actor is excellent.)

Expressing preference: preferire

• io → preferisco
• tu → preferisci
• lui/lei → preferisce
• noi → preferiamo
• voi → preferite
• loro → preferiscono

"Preferisco le commedie ai film d'azione." (I prefer comedies to action films.)

The conditional: preferirei

For a polite preference:

"Io preferirei vedere una commedia." (I would rather see a comedy.)

"Preferirei andare al cinema alle otto." (I would prefer to go to the cinema at eight.)
