To debate politely in German, you can use the Konjunktiv II to soften your statements and sound more diplomatic.
Basic Konjunktiv II forms:
- wäre (would be): Das wäre eine gute Idee. (That would be a good idea.)
- hätte (would have): Ich hätte einen Vorschlag. (I would have a suggestion.)
- würde + Infinitiv: Ich würde sagen, dass... (I would say that...)
Polite debate phrases:
- Ich verstehe Ihren Punkt, aber... (I see your point, but...)
- Ich muss zugeben, dass... (I must admit that...)
- Da haben Sie recht, allerdings... (You are right about that, however...)
Conceding and counter-arguing:
- Das stimmt zwar, aber... (That is true, but...)
- Ich sehe das anders. (I see that differently.)
The Konjunktiv II of sein (wäre) and haben (hätte) are used very frequently. For most other verbs, use würde + Infinitiv.

Типичные ошибки
Ich wäre sagen, dass...Ich würde sagen, dass...Use würde + infinitive, not wäre + infinitive. Wäre is only for sein.
Das stimmt zwar, und...Das stimmt zwar, aber...Zwar...aber is a fixed pair meaning true...but. Do not replace aber with und.
Ich bin anderer Meinung als du.Ich bin anderer Meinung als Sie.In formal debate, use Sie (formal you) instead of du.
Ich hätte gern ein Kompromiss.Ich hätte gern einen Kompromiss.Kompromiss is masculine — use einen (accusative), not ein.
Das wäre gut Idee.Das wäre eine gute Idee.You need the article eine and the adjective ending -e before Idee (feminine).
