Defending a thesis in French requires mastering advanced concession structures while maintaining a strong argument. These allow you to acknowledge opposing views without weakening your position.
Advanced concession structures:
- Quoi qu'il en soit, les données confirment... (Be that as it may, the data confirms...)
- Toujours est-il que... (The fact remains that...)
- Force est de constater que... (One must acknowledge that...)
- Il n'en demeure pas moins que... (It remains nonetheless that...)
Building your argument:
- Étayer une thèse = to support a thesis with evidence
- Corroborer = to corroborate with additional proof
- Réfuter un contre-argument = to refute an opposing view
Argumentation flow: 1. State your thèse (thesis): Nous soutenons que... 2. Acknowledge the contre-argument: Certes, on pourrait objecter que... 3. Concéder partially: S'il est vrai que..., il n'en reste pas moins que... 4. Reassert your position: Toutefois, les preuves étayent notre hypothèse.
This structure demonstrates intellectual maturity and persuasive skill at C1 level.

Force est de constater de que...Force est de constater que...Constater que does not take the preposition de.
Nous soutenons de que...Nous soutenons que...Soutenir que is a direct construction, no de needed.

On peut objecter de que...On pourrait objecter que...Use the conditional pourrait for softer academic tone, and no de before que.
