Persuasion in Portuguese requires mastering conditional structures and rhetorical devices to build compelling arguments.

The compound conditional (condicional composto) Used for hypothetical past situations: Se tivesse estudado mais, teria passado no exame. This structure combines the past subjunctive of "ter" with a past participle.

Persuasive structures Build arguments with: É evidente que... (It is evident that...), Não há dúvida de que... (There is no doubt that...), Os factos demonstram que... (The facts demonstrate that...).

Appealing to the audience Use rhetorical questions: Será que podemos ignorar este problema? Use imperatives softened by the conditional: Deveríamos considerar... (We should consider...).

Logical connectors for argumentation Structure your reasoning: Em primeiro lugar... Em segundo lugar... Por conseguinte... (Firstly... Secondly... Therefore...). Use dado que (given that) and visto que (seeing that) to introduce evidence.

Dever is not followed by de in European Portuguese. Use the conditional for politeness.
