Korean collocations are fixed verb-noun combinations that native speakers use naturally. Unlike English, Korean collocations often pair nouns with specific verbs that are not interchangeable. For example, you 내리다 a decision (결정을 내리다), 취하다 action (행동을 취하다), and 기울이다 attention (주의를 기울이다).
Mixing up verbs is a common learner error — saying 결정을 하다 is understandable but sounds unnatural to native ears. The verb 내리다 (to hand down/descend) carries a sense of authority when making decisions.
Collocations with 미치다 (영향을 미치다 — to exert influence) and 지다 (책임을 지다 — to bear responsibility) follow similar patterns where the verb adds nuance beyond a simple 하다. Learning these combinations as fixed chunks will significantly elevate your fluency and naturalness.

주의를 했어요주의를 기울였어요기울이다 (to tilt/devote) is the fixed collocation for paying attention
책임을 받았어요책임을 졌어요지다 (to carry/bear) is used for responsibility, not 받다 (to receive)
