# Discussing pros and cons in Korean
Korean has excellent connectors for balanced arguments. Use 반면에 (on the other hand) to contrast two ideas:
- 공부하면 시간이 걸리지만, 반면에 좋은 결과를 얻을 수 있어요. → Studying takes time, but on the other hand, you can get good results.
게다가 (moreover/besides) adds supporting points:
- 값이 싸요. 게다가 품질도 좋아요. → It's cheap. Moreover, the quality is good.
하지만 and 그런데 both mean "but/however" — 하지만 is more formal:
- 좋은 아이디어예요. 하지만 비용이 문제예요. → It's a good idea. However, the cost is the issue.
Use -는 대신에 (instead of/in place of) to introduce trade-offs:
- 시간을 절약하는 대신에 돈이 더 들어요. → Instead of saving time, it costs more money.
When weighing up, use 장점은 ...이고 단점은 ...이에요 for clear structure.

Typowe błędy
장점이 많아요 그리고 단점도 많아요장점이 많지만, 반면에 단점도 많아요Using 그리고 (and) for contrast sounds flat. Use 하지만 or 반면에.
반면 돈이 없어요반면에 돈이 없어요반면 needs -에 to function as an adverb: 반면에.
게다가도 좋아요게다가 좋기도 해요Don't combine 게다가 with 도 directly after it. Restructure the sentence.
대신 공부해요공부하는 대신에 쉬어요-는 대신에 attaches to a verb clause; 대신 alone is a noun meaning substitute.
전반적 좋아요전반적으로 좋아요전반적 needs -으로 to become an adverb: 전반적으로 (overall).
