  In storytelling with たら, the result clause typically uses plain past form, not polite form.

• ✗会議の最中に火災報知器が鳴った。
  ✓会議をしている最中に火災報知器が鳴った。

  最中に requires a verb in ている form, not just a noun with の.

• ✗被害は少ないだそうです。
  ✓被害は少なかったそうです。

  Hearsay そうです attaches to plain past form. Use 少なかった, not 少ないだ.

• ✗地震が起こったら、すぐ避難してください。
  ✓地震が起きたら、すぐ避難してください。

  While 起こる exists, 起きる is the standard intransitive verb for earthquakes occurring.

• ✗ニュースで聞いたそうです。
  ✓ニュースによると〜そうです。

  When citing a source, use によると at the beginning, not で聞いた at the end.
