Describing Your Neighbourhood
Ficar for Location
Use ficar to say where things are located:
- *A padaria fica perto da minha casa.* — The bakery is near my house.
- *O parque fica ao lado da biblioteca.* — The park is next to the library.
- *A farmácia fica na rua principal.* — The pharmacy is on the main street.
Haver (há) for What Exists
- *No meu bairro há muitas lojas.* — In my neighbourhood there are many shops.
- *Não há hospital perto.* — There's no hospital nearby.
Comparatives for Describing Places
Mais … do que — more … than:
- *O meu bairro é mais tranquilo do que o centro.* — My neighbourhood is quieter than the centre.
Menos … do que — less … than:
- *É menos barulhento do que antes.* — It's less noisy than before.
Tão … como — as … as:
- *É tão bonito como o bairro antigo.* — It's as beautiful as the old neighbourhood.
