が いたいです (ga itai desu) — ... Hurts
To say something hurts, use the pattern [body part] が いたいです:
💬 Example: "あたまが いたいです" → "My head hurts / I have a headache"
- おなかが いたいです → My stomach hurts
- のどが いたいです → My throat hurts
- せなかが いたいです → My back hurts
The particle が marks the body part that hurts. いたい is an い-adjective meaning "painful."
Asking if something hurts
- どこが いたいですか? → Where does it hurt?
Intensity
- ちょっと いたいです → It hurts a little
- すごく いたいです → It hurts a lot
💬 Example: "きのうから あたまが すごく いたいです" → "My head has hurt a lot since yesterday"
Expressions
- あたまが いたいですI have a headache
- おなかが いたいですMy stomach hurts
- どこが いたいですかWhere does it hurt?

Common mistakes
あたまは いたいですあたまが いたいですUse が (not は) with いたいです to mark the hurting body part
いたい あたまですあたまが いたいですThe body part comes first + が, then いたいです
あたまが いたいではないあたまが いたくないですいたい is an い-adjective: negative is いたくない, not いたいではない
めは いたいめが いたいですUse が (not は) and add です for the polite form
わたしの あたま いたいあたまが いたいですNo need for わたしの — just body part + が + いたいです
