Telling Travel Stories and Giving Opinions

To tell a travel story, combine the Perfekt with opinion adjectives and personal expressions.

Perfekt for storytelling:

*Wir sind nach Berlin gefahren.* (We went to Berlin.)
*Ich habe viele Fotos gemacht.* (I took many photos.)
*Wir haben das Museum besucht.* (We visited the museum.)

Giving your opinion:

*Ich finde, dass Berlin wunderschön ist.* (I think Berlin is wonderful.)
*Meiner Meinung nach war die Reise aufregend.* (In my opinion, the trip was exciting.)
*Das Essen war fantastisch!* (The food was fantastic!)

Watch the word order with dass: After *dass*, the conjugated verb goes to the end: *Ich finde, dass die Stadt sehr schön ist.* The verb *ist* moves to the final position.

Recommending:

*Ich kann Berlin empfehlen.* (I can recommend Berlin.)
*Du musst unbedingt das Museum besuchen.* (You absolutely must visit the museum.)

Common mistakes

After dass, the conjugated verb goes to the end

The past participle of fahren is gefahren, not gefahrt

Meiner Meinung nach war es super.
After an introductory phrase, the verb comes in 2nd position (inversion)
~~Das war ein unvergesslich Reise.~~
Das war eine unvergessliche Reise.
The adjective must agree: eine (fem.) + -e = unvergessliche
~~Ich kann das Hotel empfehle.~~
Ich kann das Hotel empfehlen.
After können, the verb stays in infinitive (empfehlen)
