Telling stories is a powerful skill. Narrative tenses and rhythm are key.
- Advanced narrative tenses: Alternate to create dynamism.
*Caminaba por la calle cuando, de repente, sonó el teléfono.* (I was walking down the street when, suddenly, the phone rang.)
- Imperfect (*caminaba*) for the backdrop
- Preterite (*sonó*) for the sudden action
- Creating suspense:
*Lo que no sabía era que...* (What he did not know was that...)
*En ese preciso momento...* (At that very moment...)
- Rhythm: Short sentences for tension, long sentences for description.
*Se detuvo. Miró a su alrededor. Nada.* (He stopped. He looked around. Nothing.)
- The twist:
*Pero todo cambió cuando...* (But everything changed when...)
