Pretérito indefinido + opinions (visité... y fue...)
To tell a travel story in Spanish, we combine the pretérito indefinido (simple past) for actions with opinion expressions. Here are common irregular forms:
- Yo visité → I visited (regular -ar)
- Yo descubrí → I discovered (regular -ir)
- Fue → It was (from ser/ir)
- Comí → I ate (regular -er)
Example: "Visité Barcelona y fue increíble." → "I visited Barcelona and it was incredible."
Example: "Descubrí la gastronomía local y me encantó." → "I discovered the local gastronomy and I loved it."
Expressing reactions
To share your feelings about a trip, use these structures:
- Me gustó / Me encantó → I liked it / I loved it
- Fue increíble / inolvidable → It was incredible / unforgettable
- Lo mejor fue... → The best part was...
- Lo recomiendo → I recommend it
- Fue una experiencia única → It was a unique experience
Example: "Lo mejor fue el paisaje. ¡Era muy bonito!" → "The best part was the landscape. It was very beautiful!"
Example: "Te recomiendo visitar el mercado." → "I recommend you visit the market."

자주 하는 실수
El viaje fue muy bien.El viaje fue muy bueno. / El viaje estuvo muy bien.With ser, use an adjective (bueno); with estar, use an adverb (bien). You cannot say ser + adverb.
Visité a Barcelona.Visité Barcelona.Do not use the preposition 'a' before city names. The personal 'a' only applies to people.
La comida fue muy buena rica.La comida fue muy rica.You cannot stack two adjectives like this. Choose one or connect them with 'y' (and).
Me gustó mucho los paisajes.Me gustaron mucho los paisajes.With gustar, the verb agrees with what is liked. 'Los paisajes' is plural, so use gustaron.
Yo recomendo este lugar.Yo recomiendo este lugar.Recomendar is a stem-changing verb: the 'e' in the stem becomes 'ie' in the present tense (recomiendo, recomiendas...).
