"Tener que + infinitive" (having to do something)
In Spanish, to express obligation or necessity, we use tener que + infinitive. This is one of the most useful structures at the airport.
The verb tener conjugates like this in the present tense:
- Yo tengo que → I have to
- Tú tienes que → You have to
- Él/Ella tiene que → He/She has to
- Nosotros tenemos que → We have to
- Ellos/Ellas tienen que → They have to
Example: "Tienes que facturar el equipaje." → "You have to check in the luggage."
Example: "Tenemos que pasar el control." → "We have to go through security."
Procedural vocabulary at the airport
At the airport, actions follow a specific order. Here are the key steps:
1. Facturar el equipaje → Check in the luggage 2. Pasar el control de seguridad → Go through security 3. Ir a la puerta de embarque → Go to the boarding gate 4. Esperar en la cola → Wait in the queue 5. Embarcar → Board
Example: "Primero tienes que facturar, luego pasar el control." → "First you have to check in, then go through security."
