Para + infinitive (purpose)

To express purpose ("in order to"), Spanish uses para + infinitive:

Example: "Estudio español para trabajar en España." → "I study Spanish in order to work in Spain."

Example: "Envío mi currículum para solicitar el puesto." → "I send my CV to apply for the position."

This is much simpler than in English, where you can say "to" or "in order to." In Spanish, it is always para + infinitive.

Quiero / Necesito / Espero + infinitive

To express desires, needs, or hopes related to job searching, use these verbs followed directly by an infinitive:

  • Quiero encontrar un buen trabajo. → I want to find a good job.
  • Necesito mejorar mi currículum. → I need to improve my CV.
  • Espero conseguir una entrevista. → I hope to get an interview.

No preposition is needed between these verbs and the infinitive.

Useful combinations

  • Quiero solicitar este puesto. → I want to apply for this position.
  • Necesito más experiencia para este trabajo. → I need more experience for this job.
  • Espero que me contraten. → I hope they hire me.
  • Busco trabajo para ganar más dinero. → I am looking for work to earn more money.

Note: With espero que + subjunctive, the structure changes when there are two different subjects.
