Making appointments in Spanish

Being able to schedule, confirm, and cancel appointments is essential for everyday life. This lesson covers how to combine days and times and ask about availability.

Combining days and times

In Spanish, you combine the day and the time with the preposition a:

• *El lunes a las diez.* — On Monday at ten.
• *El miércoles a las tres de la tarde.* — On Wednesday at three in the afternoon.
• *El viernes a las nueve de la mañana.* — On Friday at nine in the morning.

Remember: use el before the day (el lunes, el martes...) and a las before the time.

Asking about availability

Use ¿Está disponible...? or ¿Está libre...? for formal contexts:

• *¿Está disponible el martes por la mañana?* — Are you available on Tuesday morning?
• *¿Está libre el jueves a las cuatro?* — Are you free on Thursday at four?

For informal contexts:

• *¿Puedes el viernes?* — Can you do Friday?
• *¿Te va bien a las seis?* — Does six work for you?

Confirming and cancelling

• Confirmo la cita. — I confirm the appointment.
• Quiero confirmar mi cita del lunes. — I want to confirm my Monday appointment.
• Tengo que cancelar la cita. — I have to cancel the appointment.
• ¿Podemos aplazar la cita? — Can we postpone the appointment?
• ¿Podemos cambiar la hora? — Can we change the time?

Useful verbs

• Recordar (o → ue) — to remember/remind: *Te recuerdo la cita de mañana.* — I'm reminding you about tomorrow's appointment.
• Aplazar — to postpone: *Tenemos que aplazar la reunión.* — We have to postpone the meeting.

Ejemplo: "Buenos días, quiero pedir una cita. — ¿Está disponible el jueves a las diez? — Perfecto, confirmado." — "Good morning, I'd like to make an appointment. — Are you available on Thursday at ten? — Perfect, confirmed."
