# Passive Constructions in Russian Tech Support
Russian expresses "was done / has been done" differently from English. There is no passive auxiliary like "was" — instead it uses short-form past passive participles or impersonal constructions.
Short-Form Past Passive Participles
Formed from the verb, these agree in gender/number with the subject:
- обновлённый → обновлён/а/о/ы → updated
- установленный → установлен/а/о/ы → installed
- подключённый → подключён/а/о/ы → connected
- исправленный → исправлен/а/о/ы → fixed
- Программа обновлена. — The program has been updated.
- Драйвер установлен. — The driver has been installed.
- Проблема исправлена. — The problem has been fixed.
Impersonal Passive: 3rd Person Plural
To say "they fixed it" without naming the subject:
- Систему перезагрузили. — The system was restarted. (lit. "They restarted the system")
- Ошибку устранили. — The error was resolved.
У меня + не работает
A very common tech support phrase structure:
- У меня не работает интернет. — My internet is not working.
- У меня завис компьютер. — My computer froze.

자주 하는 실수
Программа была обновлена.Программа обновлена.Russian short-form passive participles (обновлена, установлена) already carry the past passive meaning. Adding была makes it redundant and unnatural.
Мой компьютер завис сейчас.У меня завис компьютер.Use the impersonal у меня + verb construction for technical problems. This is the natural Russian pattern for personal device issues.
Я не могу подключиться к Wi-Fi из-за слабая связь.Я не могу подключиться к Wi-Fi из-за слабой связи.Из-за (because of) requires the genitive case: слабой связи (not the nominative слабая связь).
Установить обновление было сделан.Обновление было установлено.The short-form participle must agree with the subject in gender: обновление (neuter) → установлено (neuter short form), not сделан (masculine).
Позвоните в техническая поддержка.Позвоните в техническую поддержку.After в (direction), adjectives and nouns take the accusative case: техническую поддержку (not nominative техническая поддержка).
Ошибка исправил.Ошибка исправлена.Use the short-form passive participle исправлена (feminine to agree with ошибка), not the active past form исправил.
