"Ir + Infinitive" for Travel Plans

Use the near future to discuss travel plans:

Vamos conduzir até ao Algarve. *(We're going to drive to the Algarve.)*
Vou abastecer antes de sair. *(I'm going to refuel before leaving.)*

Giving Directions

Key prepositions and expressions:

Segue em frente até à rotunda. *(Go straight until the roundabout.)*
Vira à direita na próxima saída. *(Turn right at the next exit.)*
Passa pela portagem. *(Go through the toll.)*

"Antes de" / "Depois de" + Infinitive

Sequencing actions for trip planning:

Antes de partir, verifica os pneus. *(Before leaving, check the tyres.)*
Depois de abastecer, vamos almoçar. *(After refuelling, let's have lunch.)*

European Portuguese Driving Terms

Conduzir (not dirigir) = to drive
Carta de condução (not carteira) = driving licence
Gasóleo (not diesel) = diesel fuel
Rotunda (not rotatória) = roundabout

Tip: Portugal uses Via Verde for automatic toll payment. You can rent a device at the border or airport.
