Reporting Issues

Use estar + a + infinitive for ongoing problems:

*O computador está a ficar lento.* (The computer is getting slow.)
*O ecrã está a piscar.* (The screen is flickering.)

Use the pretérito perfeito for sudden events:

*O telemóvel avariou.* (The phone broke down.)
*A bateria acabou.* (The battery died.)

Asking for Help

*Pode ajudar-me com...?* (Can you help me with...?)
*Não consigo ligar o computador.* (I cannot turn on the computer.)
*O que é que devo fazer?* (What should I do?)

European Portuguese Tech Vocabulary

Key differences from Brazilian Portuguese:

ecrã (not tela) — screen
telemóvel (not celular) — mobile phone
computador portátil (not notebook) — laptop
rato (not mouse) — mouse

Note: *Avaria* is the European term for a technical fault/breakdown.
