Business Correspondence in Polish
Polish business correspondence follows strict formal conventions that differ significantly from informal writing.
Letter structure: 1. *Miejsce i data* — Place and date (top right) 2. *Dane adresata* — Addressee details 3. *Tytuł/Temat* — Subject line 4. *Zwrot otwierający* — Opening salutation 5. *Treść* — Body of the letter 6. *Zwrot zamykający* — Closing salutation 7. *Podpis* — Signature
Formal openings:
- *Szanowny Panie Dyrektorze* — Dear Director (masculine)
- *Szanowna Pani Prezes* — Dear President (feminine)
- *Szanowni Państwo* — Dear Sir/Madam (gender-neutral)
Formal closings:
- *Z poważaniem* — Yours sincerely / Respectfully
- *Z wyrazami szacunku* — With expressions of respect
- *Łączę wyrazy szacunku* — I send my regards
Key rules:
Use the formal *Pan/Pani* (Mr/Ms) with title. Never use first names in formal correspondence unless invited to do so.
