Leading a Meeting in Korean
Meeting language in Korean requires hierarchical awareness and formal register. -도록 하다 signals structure and instruction: 오늘 회의는 세 가지 안건을 다루도록 하겠습니다. (We will address three agenda items in today's meeting.)
-게 하다 facilitates contributions: 모든 분이 의견을 말씀하실 수 있게 하겠습니다. (I will allow everyone to share their opinions.)
-(으)ㄹ 필요가 있다 identifies action items: 이 문제에 대한 추가 논의가 필요합니다.
-하여야 한다 closes with commitments: 다음 회의까지 보고서를 작성하여야 합니다.
Korean meeting culture respects seniority. The 사회자 (chairperson) controls the floor carefully. Using 발언권 to formally give someone the floor — 다음은 김 부장님께서 발언하시겠습니다 — is expected. Disagreements are expressed diplomatically using 이견이 있으시면 followed by a polite but firm statement.
