# Grammar: -(으)려고 하다 — Expressing Intentions

Use -(으)려고 하다 to express plans or intentions. It attaches to the verb stem and means "I intend to / I am planning to."

This pattern is very natural for discussing road trip plans. To add more context, combine it with time expressions:

Compare with -(으)ㄹ 거예요 (future intention based on prediction) — -(으)려고 하다 emphasizes personal planning and decision-making.

An action happening at a place takes 에서, not 에. 에 marks a destination or location of existence; 에서 marks where an action occurs.

예약하다 is transitive, so its object takes the object marker 을/를. Use 렌터카를, not the subject marker 가.

In a polite (해요체) context you can't drop the 요. 예약하려고 해 is casual 반말; add 요 to stay polite: 예약하려고 해요.

Before a command or suggestion, use the reason ending -(으)니까, not -아서/어서. -아서/어서 can't precede an imperative.

켜다 has no final consonant, so the intention ending is just -려고 하다. Don't insert 으: 켜려고 해요, not 켜으려고 해요.
