Giving a Presentation: 먼저...마지막으로
Korean presentations follow a clear structural pattern using sequence markers.
Sequence markers:
- 먼저 — first / to begin with
- 다음으로 / 그 다음에 — next / moving on
- 마지막으로 — finally / lastly
Useful presentation phrases:
- 지금부터 발표를 시작하겠습니다 — I will now begin my presentation
- 오늘 주제는 ~입니다 — Today's topic is ~
- 다음 슬라이드를 보겠습니다 — Let's look at the next slide
- 요약하자면 — to summarize
- 이상으로 마치겠습니다 — I will conclude here
- 질문 있으시면 말씀해 주세요 — Please feel free to ask questions
Formal endings: Always use -겠습니다 for intentions during presentations:
- 설명드리겠습니다 — I will explain
- 보여드리겠습니다 — I will show you
Tip: Korean presentations often end with 감사합니다 (thank you) followed by applause.
자주 하는 실수
지금부터 발표를 시작해요지금부터 발표를 시작하겠습니다In a formal presentation use the 합니다체 ending -겠습니다 to announce your intention. 시작해요 (해요체) is too casual for the audience.
다음에 두 번째 슬라이드을 보겠습니다다음으로 두 번째 슬라이드를 보겠습니다Two slips: the sequence marker is 다음으로 (not 다음에), and 슬라이드 ends in a vowel so it takes 를, not 을.
이 슬라이드에 결론을 강조하겠습니다이 슬라이드에서 결론을 강조하겠습니다Use 에서 for the place where an action happens. 에 marks a static location/destination, so 슬라이드에서 is right here.
질문이 있으면 말해요질문이 있으시면 말씀해 주세요Toward the audience add the honorific -(으)시- (있으시면) and the polite request 말씀해 주세요. 말해요 sounds blunt.
요약하자면 세 가지 핵심을 강조겠습니다요약하자면 세 가지 핵심을 강조하겠습니다강조하다 is a 하다-verb, so you can't drop 하: it's 강조 + 하 + 겠습니다 → 강조하겠습니다.
