International Negotiations in Japanese
Business negotiations in Japanese require ultra-polite language that maintains harmony while advancing your position.
~いただければ幸いです (itadakereba saiwai desu) means "I would be grateful if you could." It is the most polite way to make a request in business Japanese.
ご検討いただければ幸いです。
*I would be grateful if you could consider this.*
~させていただく (sasete itadaku) means "allow me to" and is a humble expression used when doing something with the other party's implicit permission.
提案させていただきます。
*Allow me to make a proposal.*
In negotiations, いただければ幸いです makes requests without pressure, while させていただく frames your actions as requiring the other party's goodwill. Both maintain the respectful distance essential in Japanese business culture. Combine with 譲歩 (concession) and 妥協点 (compromise) to navigate deals diplomatically.
