Reporting Scientific Findings
Scientific and academic Japanese uses specific grammar patterns to report discoveries, attribute findings, and maintain the objective tone expected in academic discourse.
ことが明らかになった means "it became clear that" or "it was revealed that": 新しい治療法が有効であることが明らかになった (It became clear that the new treatment is effective). This pattern reports findings without attributing them to a specific person.
が発見された means "was discovered": 新しい元素が発見された (A new element was discovered). The passive form maintains scientific objectivity.
が証明された means "was proven" or "was demonstrated": この仮説が証明された (This hypothesis was proven). It indicates verified scientific results.
によると means "according to": 最新の研究によると、睡眠は記憶に重要な役割を果たす (According to the latest research, sleep plays an important role in memory). This is essential for citing sources.
These patterns allow you to discuss scientific topics, summarize research papers, and present findings with the appropriate level of formality.
