Making Suggestions in Japanese
Japanese has two key patterns for making plans with others. ～ましょう (mashō) means "let's do..." and is used when you are confident the other person will agree. For example: 映画を見ましょう (Let's watch a movie).
To politely invite someone, use ～ませんか (masen ka), which literally means "won't you...?" This is softer and more considerate: 一緒に食べませんか (Won't you eat together with me?).
Use ～ましょうか (mashō ka) to offer help: 手伝いましょうか (Shall I help?). When discussing availability, 都合がいい means "it's convenient" and 暇です means "I'm free." To set a meeting, say 待ち合わせは３時にしましょう (Let's meet at 3 o'clock). These patterns are essential for social planning in Japanese.
