Connectors of Cause and Consequence
To structure an online review, Italian uses connectors that express cause and consequence.
Cause connectors (why?):
- Perché (because — direct cause)
- Ho dato 5 stelle perché il servizio era eccellente. *(I gave 5 stars because the service was excellent.)*
- Sono rimasto deluso perché la qualità era bassa. *(I was disappointed because the quality was low.)*
- Dato che / Visto che (given that — objective cause)
- Dato che l'esperienza è stata positiva, tornerò sicuramente. *(Given that the experience was positive, I will certainly return.)*
Consequence connectors (what is the result?):
- Quindi (so / therefore — very common)
- Il personale era scortese, quindi non tornerò. *(The staff was rude, so I will not return.)*
- Pertanto (therefore — more formal)
- La qualità non era all'altezza; pertanto, non raccomando questo posto. *(The quality was not up to scratch; therefore, I do not recommend this place.)*
- Di conseguenza (as a result / consequently)
- L'hotel era sporco; di conseguenza, ho presentato un reclamo. *(The hotel was dirty; as a result, I made a complaint.)*
Classic review structure: Description of experience + perché + judgement → quindi / pertanto + recommendation
