Identifying Your Personal Style

Every great writer has a distinctive voice. Your voix d'auteur emerges from:

Vocabulary choices: formal, poetic, colloquial?
Sentence structure: short and punchy, or long and flowing?
Perspective: cynical, optimistic, detached, intimate?

Refining Your Authorial Voice

"Le style, c'est l'homme même." — Style is the man himself. (Buffon)

Practice through pastiche (imitating other styles) before developing your own. Read widely in French — Camus for economy, Proust for richness, Duras for emotional intensity.

Consistency and Evolution

Your voice should be constant (recognisable) yet évoluer over time. The mark of a C2 writer is the ability to maintain a distinctive voice across different topics and registers.
