Persuasive writing in French combines logical argumentation with rhetorical techniques and emotional appeal to create compelling texts.

Building a thesis (thèse):

*Ma thèse est que l'éducation est le levier le plus puissant du changement social.* (My thesis is that education is the most powerful lever of social change.)
Support with evidence: *Les études étayent cette position.* (Studies support this position.)

Argumentation structure: 1. *Thèse* — State your position clearly. 2. *Arguments* — Support with logical reasoning and evidence. 3. *Contre-arguments* — Acknowledge opposing views. 4. *Réfutation* — Dismantle counter-arguments with evidence. 5. *Conclusion* — Reaffirm your thesis with impact.

Rhetorical techniques:

*Anaphora:* *Nous devons agir. Nous devons changer. Nous devons oser.* (We must act. We must change. We must dare.)
*Rhetorical question:* *Comment peut-on accepter une telle injustice ?* (How can one accept such injustice?)
*Tricolon:* grouping in threes for rhythm and emphasis.

Emotional appeal (appel émotionnel):

*Imaginez un monde où chaque enfant a accès à l'éducation.* (Imagine a world where every child has access to education.)
Use concrete examples to build crédibilité.

Credibility (crédibilité):

Cite sources: *Selon les experts...* (According to experts...)
Use data: *Les chiffres montrent clairement que...* (The figures clearly show that...)
Acknowledge complexity: *Certes, la question est nuancée, mais...* (Certainly, the question is nuanced, but...)

Creating impact:

End with a call to action or a powerful statement.
*L'impact d'un texte convaincant réside dans l'équilibre entre logique et émotion.* (The impact of a convincing text lies in the balance between logic and emotion.)

자주 하는 실수

Ma thèse est que l'éducation est importante.
Important must agree with éducation (feminine): importante, not important.
~~Les études étaient cette position.~~
Les études étayent cette position.
Étayer (to support) is confused with être (to be). Étayent is the correct conjugation.
~~La réfutation de cet argument est facile à faire.~~
Cet argument se réfute aisément.
The reflexive form is more concise and elegant than the verbose periphrasis.
~~Il faut convaincre le lecteur avec des arguments émotionnels.~~
Il faut convaincre le lecteur en combinant logique et émotion.
Persuasive writing should balance logos and pathos, not rely solely on emotional arguments.
~~Selon moi, je pense que cette thèse est correcte.~~
Cette thèse me semble fondée. / J'estime que cette thèse est fondée.
Selon moi + je pense is redundant. Choose one framing and use fondée for academic credibility.
