Writing an opinion article in French requires advanced participial constructions and a clear argumentative structure. French journalism has specific conventions for opinion pieces.
Advanced participle constructions:
- *Ayant considéré tous les arguments, je conclus que...* (Having considered all arguments, I conclude that...)
- *Étant donné que la situation évolue...* (Given that the situation is evolving...)
- *Les données ayant été analysées, il apparaît que...* (The data having been analyzed, it appears that...)
Opinion article structure: 1. *L'accroche* — A compelling opening statement 2. *La thèse* — Your clear position 3. *Les arguments* — Supporting points with examples 4. *La concession* — Acknowledging the other side 5. *La conclusion* — A strong closing call to action
Key phrases:
- *Il est indéniable que...* (It is undeniable that...)
- *Force est de constater que...* (One must observe that...)
- *On ne saurait ignorer le fait que...* (One cannot ignore the fact that...)
A good *tribune* combines a clear *prise de position* with *convaincant* evidence and a balanced *angle*.
