Numbers 0-20
Learn these by heart — they are unique:
- 0 zéro, 1 un, 2 deux, 3 trois, 4 quatre, 5 cinq
- 6 six, 7 sept, 8 huit, 9 neuf, 10 dix
- 11 onze, 12 douze, 13 treize, 14 quatorze, 15 quinze
- 16 seize, 17 dix-sept, 18 dix-huit, 19 dix-neuf, 20 vingt
Numbers 21-100
From 21, it becomes regular: vingt et un (21), vingt-deux (22)... up to soixante-neuf (69). Then it gets tricky:
- 70 = soixante-dix (sixty-ten)
- 80 = quatre-vingts (four-twenties)
- 90 = quatre-vingt-dix (four-twenty-ten)
Talking About Age
Use avoir (to have), NOT être:
J'ai vingt-cinq ans. — I am 25 years old.
Tu as quel âge ? — How old are you?
