영어로 현대 미술 말하기
작품을 묘사하기
영어 비평은 medium(유화, 아크릴, 영상, 조각 같은 재료와 매체)과 subject matter(다루는 소재)를 또렷이 구분해요. 한국어로는 둘 다 「소재」로 뭉뚱그리기 쉬우니 따로 챙겨 두세요.
"The work challenges conventional notions of beauty." → "그 작품은 통념적인 아름다움에 질문을 던져요."
"The artist employs a minimalist aesthetic to maximum effect." → "작가는 미니멀한 미학을 최대치로 활용해요."
"This installation forces the viewer to question their assumptions." → "이 설치 작업은 관람자가 스스로의 전제를 되묻게 만들어요."
개념 미술
Conceptual art는 결과물보다 아이디어를 앞세우는 흐름이에요.
"The concept takes precedence over the execution." → "실행보다 개념이 앞서요."
"The piece is more about what it represents than what it looks like." → "이 작품은 생김새보다 무엇을 뜻하는지가 중요해요."
결이 있는 의견 내기
B2에서는 단정적인 평가를 피하는 게 좋아요. 좋다, 싫다로 끝내지 말고 한 겹 더 얹어 보세요.

큐레이터의 역할
Curator는 작품을 고르고 전시를 구성하는 사람이에요. 영어권 미술관의 작품 설명에는 그 작품이 거쳐 온 소장 이력, 즉 provenance가 함께 적혀 있는 경우가 많아요.

I am very interested about modern artI am very interested in modern artinterested는 전치사 in과 짝을 이뤄요. about은 쓰지 않아요.
The exhibition was composed by 50 worksThe exhibition was composed of 50 works「…로 구성되다」는 be composed of예요. by는 만든 사람을 가리킬 때 써요.
