To describe your home, use er is (there is) for singular and er zijn (there are) for plural: *Er is een tuin* (There is a garden), *Er zijn drie slaapkamers* (There are three bedrooms). When adding adjectives before a de-word, add -e: *de grote keuken* (the big kitchen). Before a het-word with de/het, also add -e: *het grote balkon*. But with een + het-word, NO -e: *een groot balkon*. The untranslatable word gezellig is essential — it means cosy, pleasant, and socially warm. Dutch people often describe rooms as *licht en ruim* (bright and spacious).
