Expressing Your Opinion in Chinese
In Chinese, opinions are expressed using specific verbs followed directly by a clause. No subjunctive needed — just state your view!
The 3 main structures:
- 我认为 (wǒ rènwéi) = I think / I consider
- 我认为这个想法很好。*(Wǒ rènwéi zhège xiǎngfǎ hěn hǎo.)* — I think this idea is great.
- 我觉得 (wǒ juéde) = I feel / I think
- 我觉得这不太对。*(Wǒ juéde zhè bù tài duì.)* — I feel this isn't quite right.
- 在我看来 (zài wǒ kàn lái) = In my view / From my perspective
- 在我看来，学中文很有用。*(Zài wǒ kàn lái, xué zhōngwén hěn yǒuyòng.)* — In my view, learning Chinese is very useful.
Softening your opinion:
- 也许 (yěxǔ) — perhaps
- 可能 (kěnéng) — possibly
Key tip: Unlike French or Italian, Chinese opinion phrases do NOT require a mood change after them. Just add the clause directly!

- 我认为这样做更合适。Saying you think another way is better
- 在我看来，这个问题很复杂。Introducing a complex topic from your view
- 我觉得他说得有道理。Agreeing someone made a good point
- 说实话，我不太确定。Being honest about uncertainty
- 我的看法是，应该多交流。Stating your position on communication
- 我支持这个观点。Expressing full support for an idea
자주 하는 실수
我认为是他对的。我认为他是对的。The subject must come before the predicate — put 他 before 是对的.
在我看，这很难。在我看来，这很难。The set phrase is 在我看来 (zài wǒ kàn lái) — 来 cannot be omitted.
我觉得很好。我觉得这很好。需要指明主语或对象 — add 这 or another subject to clarify what you find good.
我的意见，应该早点来。我认为应该早点来。我的意见 is a noun phrase, not a verb — use 我认为 to make it a sentence.
我支持的这个观点。我支持这个观点。No 的 between a verb and its object in standard Chinese — remove 的.
