Past Simple vs. Past Continuous

She opened the door.
It was raining. People were rushing home.

I was walking home when I noticed something strange.

Past Perfect

Past Perfect(had +

  • When I arrived, the meeting had already started. →
  • She realized she had forgotten her passport. →

  • So I'm standing there, and suddenly this guy walks up to me and says...

He stopped. He turned. He ran.
  • 修辞的なポーズ(And then... nothing.)
Sydney

表現

  • Buckle up.
  • This is where it gets weird.
  • Wait, I haven't told you the best part.
  • Turns out...
  • Long story short...
  • You won't believe what happened next.
  • Little did I know that...
  • And that was just the beginning.

  • I was walking and I see a dog
I was walking and I saw a dog

  • The story had a good end
The story had a good ending

  • He told me a history about his childhood
He told me a story about his childhood

  • At the end, everything was fine
In the end, everything was fine

    「in the end」= 結局(結論)。

  • He said me a very interesting story.
He told me a very interesting story.

    tell someone a story(say someoneではない)と言います。
