よくある間違い

• ✗My thesis proves that remote work is always better.

  「proves」と「always」は学術的文脈では絶対的すぎる——「suggests」「tends to」「in certain contexts」を使うこと

• ✗I agree with the criticism but my point is still right.
  ✓While I concede the merit of this objection, I maintain that the core argument holds because...

  カジュアルな表現はヴィヴァには不適切——正式な譲歩-反論構造を使うこと

• ✗Lots of evidence shows this is true.
  ✓A substantial body of evidence supports the claim that...

  「lots of」は口語的——「a substantial body of」「a growing body of」「considerable evidence」を使うこと

• ✗This proves my hypothesis is correct.
  ✓This finding is consistent with / lends support to the hypothesis that...

  「prove」は科学では強すぎる——「support」「corroborate」「be consistent with」を使うこと

• ✗The evidence undeniably proves my thesis beyond question.
  ✓The evidence strongly supports my thesis.

  学術的な議論では、証拠が否定できないと主張すると議論を閉ざしてしまいます。strongly supportsのような控えめな表現を使う方が適切です。

• ✗While critics may disagree, but my argument stands.
  ✓While critics may disagree, my argument stands.

  whileとbutはどちらも譲歩の接続詞です。両方使うのは文法的に冗長です。
