Il discorso indiretto in inglese
Il discorso indiretto permette di trasmettere ciò che qualcuno ha detto, pensato o chiesto, senza citare direttamente le sue parole.
Regola principale: arretramento dei tempi
Quando si riporta ciò che è stato detto, i tempi arretrano di un passo:
- *presente → passato semplice*: "I want a refund" → She said she wanted a refund.
- *passato semplice → passato perfetto*: "I bought it yesterday" → He said he had bought it the day before.
- *will → would*: "I'll check" → She said she would check.
Cambiamenti aggiuntivi:
- *today → that day*
- *yesterday → the day before*
- *here → there*
Verbi introduttori frequenti: *said, told, explained, complained, asked, promised, warned*
Esempi in un negozio:
- The customer said the product was faulty.
- She complained that she hadn't received a receipt.

He told that the product was brokenHe said / He told me that the product was broken"Tell" richiede un oggetto indiretto (me, him, her). "Say" si usa senza oggetto: he said that...
She asked what time is the shop openShe asked what time the shop was openIn una domanda indiretta, si usa l'ordine normale soggetto-verbo (senza inversione) e il tempo arretra.
I complained about the product is faultyI complained that the product was faultyDopo "complain", si usa "that + frase", non "about + frase completa".
