To describe symptoms at the doctor's, you use the pretérito perfecto with desde and hace:
- Tengo tos desde hace 3 días (I've had a cough for 3 days)
- Me duele la cabeza desde el lunes (I've had a headache since Monday)
- He tenido fiebre desde ayer (I've had a fever since yesterday)
Structure with doler (to hurt):
Me duele la cabeza. (My head hurts.)
Me duelen las piernas. (My legs hurt.)
The verb doler works like gustar: the subject is the body part.
Useful expressions at the doctor's:
- Tengo náuseas / mareos (I feel nauseous / dizzy)
- Me siento débil (I feel weak)
- Empezó de repente (It started suddenly)
- Es un dolor agudo / constante (It's a sharp / constant pain)
