É preciso + infinitive (it is necessary):
- É preciso dormir oito horas. — It is necessary to sleep eight hours.
- É preciso fazer exercício. — It is necessary to exercise.
Não se deve + infinitive (one must not):
- Não se deve comer demasiado açúcar. — One should not eat too much sugar.
- Não se deve trabalhar sem pausas. — One should not work without breaks.
Dever (should/must — conjugated):
- Deves beber mais água. — You should drink more water.
- Devemos evitar o stress. — We should avoid stress.
Giving advice:
- Aconselho-te a meditar. — I advise you to meditate.
- Porque não experimentas ioga? — Why don't you try yoga?
Tip: É preciso is impersonal and more formal. Dever is more direct and personal.
