Writing an academic summary in Korean requires mastery of indirect speech and paraphrasing. To report what a text says, use -(ㄴ/는)다고 하다 or -(으)ㄴ/는 바: 이 논문은 기후 변화가 심각하다고 주장하는 바이다 (This paper argues that climate change is serious).
Avoid copying source text word-for-word; instead paraphrase using synonyms and restructured sentences. Key summarizing phrases include: 핵심 내용은 ...이다 (The key content is...), ...에 따르면 (according to...), ...을 중심으로 (focusing on...).
Academic summaries omit personal opinions. Use objective, concise language with formal endings -다 (plain form) or -습니다 in presented writing. Stick to the original author's ideas, clearly attributed.
