Moving In: -아/어 놓다 and Causatives
When moving into a new place in Korea, you often describe what has been prepared in advance. Two key grammar patterns:
-아/어 놓다 (have done and left in that state)
- Describes an action completed ahead of time whose result is still in place
- 가구를 배달해 놓았어요 — I have had the furniture delivered (ready)
- 계약서를 써 놓았어요 — I have written up the contract already
Causatives (시키다 / -게 하다)
- Used when you make or have someone else do something
- 이삿짐 회사를 시켰어요 — I had the moving company come
- 인터넷을 설치하게 했어요 — I had the internet installed
Key tip: Use -아/어 놓다 to emphasize the result is ready:
- 청소해 놓았어요 — I have cleaned it (so it is ready)
- 짐을 옮겨 놓았어요 — I have moved the boxes (they are there now)
आम गलतियाँ
다음 주에 새 집에서 이사할 거예요다음 주에 새 집으로 이사할 거예요For a destination you move to, use (으)로. 에서 means from/at a place, so it sounds like you move away from the new house.
집주인한테 보증금을 언제 돌려받을 수 있어?집주인한테 보증금을 언제 돌려받을 수 있어요?You're talking to your landlord, so keep it polite with -어요. The bare -어 ending is casual 반말 and sounds rude here.
짐을 다 풀었어 놓았어요짐을 다 풀어 놓았어요-아/어 놓다 attaches to the plain verb stem (풀어 놓다), never to a past form. 풀었어 is already past, so it can't take 놓다.
관리비에 전기 요금을 포함돼 있어요관리비에 전기 요금이 포함돼 있어요포함되다 is passive (something gets included), so the included item takes 이/가, not 을/를. Use 포함하다 if you want 을/를.
냉장고하고 세탁기를 한 개씩 샀어요냉장고하고 세탁기를 한 대씩 샀어요Appliances and machines are counted with 대, not 개. 개 is for small general objects.
