Writing a Report in Japanese
Japanese formal writing uses the である style and formal connectors. This is essential for business and academic reports.
である Style
The である style replaces です/ます with plain forms plus である for na-adjectives and nouns:
- この結果は重要である。 (This result is important.) — instead of 重要です
- 調査は完了した。 (The survey was completed.) — plain past tense
Formal Locative: において
- において — "in / at" (formal): 会議において報告書を提出した。 (The report was submitted at the meeting.)
Regarding: に関して
- に関して — "regarding / concerning": この問題に関して詳しく調査した。 (We investigated in detail regarding this issue.)
Based On: に基づいて
- に基づいて — "based on": データに基づいて分析を行った。 (We conducted the analysis based on data.)
