The Present Perfect: Talking About Your Career
To describe your career path and life experiences in Hindi, the present perfect tense is essential. It connects past events to the present.
Formation:
- Subject + ने + object + verb stem + चुका/चुकी/चुके हैं (for completed actions)
- Or: verb stem + आ/ई/ए + है/हैं (standard present perfect)
Talking about completed career milestones:
- मैंने पाँच साल तक उस कंपनी में काम किया है। — I have worked at that company for five years.
- मैं तीन बार पदोन्नत हो चुका हूँ। — I have been promoted three times.
- मैंने दो अलग-अलग क्षेत्रों में काम किया है। — I have worked in two different fields.
Expressing duration with से:
- मैं इस पद पर दो साल से हूँ। — I have been in this position for two years.
Talking about goals achieved:
- मैंने अपना लक्ष्य हासिल कर लिया है। — I have achieved my goal.
- हमने एक बड़ी उपलब्धि पाई है। — We have achieved a great accomplishment.
Use चुका/चुकी to emphasize that an action is fully complete before the present moment.
वाक्यांश
- तीन साल से इस क्षेत्र में काम किया है।I have worked in this field for three years.
- मेरा लक्ष्य प्रबंधक बनना है।My goal is to become a manager.
- मैं इस पद पर तरक्की पाना चाहता हूँ।I want to advance in this position.

आम गलतियाँ
मैं तीन साल काम किया।मैंने तीन साल काम किया है।Past perfective of transitive verbs requires ने on the subject. Also add है for present perfect meaning.
मैं इस पद पर दो साल हूँ।मैं इस पद पर दो साल से हूँ।Duration up to the present requires से (since/for). Without से, the sentence sounds incomplete.
मैं तीन बार पदोन्नत चुका हूँ।मैं तीन बार पदोन्नत हो चुका हूँ।चुका must follow the full verb हो (होना), not attach directly to the adjective पदोन्नत.
